Hi all! I figured I’d dive deeper into the beginning of the Terafyn story and also take a look at one of our characters, Betyn, the player’s father and mentor. Many thanks to our writers Sydney and Rory who really gave our story and the characters depth and substance.
Our story begins in Brittlemire, a small fishing village hugging the coast of the Granor Sea in the region of Cairn. The village’s apothecary, Winifred, is working hard to cure the ailing villagers of a new disease. She has had some success using a medicinal plant called ventorwort, but her supply has dwindled. She asks that you and your father, Betyn, gather the plant in the Valewood forest, which lies just north of the village, and so the player’s first adventure begins.
Betyn Thorne is a famous figure in the village of Brittlemire. Beneath his gnarled, scarred exterior lies a responsible leader with a charming personality and unrivaled skill in combat. Though the villagers rely on him to brave the wild for the essentials they need, he rarely travels far or after dangerous quarry, unwilling to make an orphan of his only child, the player.
Before he became a father, Betyn was an adventurer, roaming the lands of Terafyn and lending his support to any cause his conscience—or his coin purse—called him to pursue. He rarely speaks of his former life, but his experiences have left him with a keen sense of when to let the player make their own decisions and when to intervene. He’s always there to offer guidance, but he’s ready to back off if asked.
He sees this expedition into the Valewood as the player’s first foray into the real world, and he is determined to make sure they are equipped to survive. Will his laissez-faire parenting style hold up in the face of real mortal danger?
Each of Terafyn’s characters is unique, with their own values, attitudes, motivations, and fears. We look forward to introducing them to you, so keep your eye on our blog for more!
